If you’re considering moving to a new city and haven’t yet decided between Phoenix and Florida, you’re not alone. Arizona is the fastest growing urban center in the United States. Its population increased by 11.2 percent between 2010 and 2020, rising from 1.4 million to 1.6 million residents. That’s the highest percentage change among U.S. cities of 50,000 or more residents, adding 13,224 new residents in just one year.

Arizona is cheaper than Florida

One of the biggest differences between Florida and Arizona is the cost of living. In Arizona, the median home price is $225,500. Monthly ownership costs are $1,434 versus $1,052 in Florida. Those living in Arizona can take advantage of the deductions for dependent children, charitable contributions, and the cost of solar panels. Property taxes in Arizona are capped at 0.62% of assessed value, which is lower than the national average of 0.75%. The price of utilities, however, can be high, with a sales tax of up to 11.2% in some counties.

Another major difference between Florida and Arizona is climate. Florida is hotter, and humidity makes the temperature feel warmer. In the Space and Treasure coasts, coastal sea breezes and thunderstorms contribute to cooler temperatures. These cool temperatures are partly due to reduced heat in the afternoon. Still, Florida is one of the hottest states in the country. The average daily temperature hovers around 70 degrees. In contrast, Arizona’s average daily temperature is nearly 90 degrees during the summer months.

While Florida is more crowded than Arizona, the outskirts are not nearly as dense. People who do not want to live in the urban area can opt for Arizona. Arizona has many historic sites and is far less expensive than Florida. For those who love to travel, there are several things worth noting about Florida. The cost of housing is higher, but the state has a low income tax. This is great news for those who want to live close to nature but don’t want the high cost of urban living.

Phoenix is warmer than Florida

Aside from the fact that Arizona is much warmer than Florida, another key difference between the two states is the humidity. Arizona has a dry subtropical climate, while Florida has humid tropical conditions, making summers sticky and warm. Also, Florida has more rain than Arizona, and summers are much hotter. Florida summers also have high humidity, making the days feel much heavier than they really are. Fortunately, there are far fewer natural disasters in Arizona than in Florida, and the chances of hurricanes are much lower.

As a result of its location 2,300 miles from the equator, Arizona receives more sun energy than its neighbors. Because of the tilt of the earth, summer days in Arizona are longer than in Florida. Elevation also plays a role in climate. Higher elevations are cooler than lower ones, and temperatures can easily exceed 90 degrees in August. However, temperatures can still drop below 80 degrees in January and February, but remain above 90 degrees through November.

As spring rolls around, temperatures rise in Phoenix. March highs in Phoenix are 77-70 degrees, with lows in February around 50 degrees. April’s average low temperature is 60 degrees, but that’s not the lowest. However, the best months to visit Phoenix are March and April, when temperatures reach the mid-70s. However, the days are warmer during these months, with temperatures dropping to the mid-60s overnight.

Arizona has better weather forecasts

In early April, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued predictions for the United States’ weather, including the likelihood of below-average temperatures, drought conditions, and increased temperature. Of particular note is Arizona’s forecast, which has an almost 50 percent chance of above-average temperatures for the next 90 days. Compared to the previous year, which had below-average precipitation, this spring’s forecast for the state is significantly better.

The Farmer’s Almanac, a competitor of the Old Farmer’s Almanac, has put the state in a «balmy and wet» zone for the winter. This is not surprising considering that wet winters in the Pacific Northwest are followed by drier ones in Arizona. Nevertheless, the forecasts do seem more accurate and up-to-date in many ways. In addition to the better weather forecasts, the agency also offers other important information about Arizona’s climate.

Arizona has zero tax benefits from Social Security

Arizona has no tax on Social Security benefits. Likewise, there is no inheritance or estate tax in Arizona. Those earning under $20,690 are taxed at a low rate, while those making over $310,317 are taxed at a high rate. However, retirement income from private pensions and federal government benefits are taxed. Therefore, retirees should carefully consider moving to Arizona to save on taxes.

Nine of the thirteen states in the western U.S. do not tax Social Security benefits. For example, North Dakota recently amended its tax code to exclude Social Security benefits from taxable income. Colorado taxes benefit income at 4.55 percent. Those over 65 can claim a deduction of up to $20,000 of their retirement income. A married couple can also claim these deductions. For a single individual, these benefits can save them as much as $3,000 on their taxes.

Those receiving government pensions in Arizona can also take advantage of a program known as «ABLE.» This program allows individuals with disabilities to contribute up to $2,000 annually to a trust. The ABLE program, which was passed by the Arizona legislature in 2014, also protects individuals with disabilities from losing their public benefits because of their disability. This new program can be helpful for retirees who are facing financial hardship. It is important to note that if your spouse has a disability and has not yet retired, the SS benefits may be taxable.

Arizona has plenty of gators

Most people assume that alligators cannot live in Arizona. That’s not always the case. A typical month might see two or three alligators wandering through Valley homes. Most people believe that alligators can only survive in the warmer parts of the state, but American alligators are native to coastal wetlands in the Southeast, including northern North Carolina, southern Florida, and southern Texas. They are able to survive freezing temperatures.

Fortunately, for people who live in the area, gator rescues in Arizona have become much easier. The crocodiles were found in plastic tubes in the back of box trucks. A neighbor had reported the animal, and authorities called the gator gitters to come and help. Some rescues, however, were less successful. This is due to the fact that the crocodiles are often subjected to euthanasia if there is no sanctuary for them.

While most gators in Arizona are small teddy bears, there are still a number of large, aggressive animals. Some are dangerous and aggressive, while others are cute and cuddly. A few of the more well-known ones are Clem, a 500-pound ill-tempered behemoth. The Phoenix Herpetological Society is an excellent resource for gator information and feeding activities.

Arizona has a welcoming environment for new families

For decades, Arizona has been a haven for refugee families, and this recent influx of immigrants and refugees has only increased. In the last four decades, over 60,000 newcomers have found a home in Arizona. In recent years, nearly 2,000 newcomers have arrived in Phoenix alone. This influx of people has created an atmosphere of acceptance and generosity. Arizona provides government-subsidized housing and programs that help newcomers make their homes.

These habitats harbor soft corals, manatees, and other wildlife. You’ll also find several wrecked Spanish ships. The area is rich in history. In fact, there are more than forty wrecks here. Whether you’re looking for adventure or a relaxing retreat, Biscayne National Park is the perfect place for outdoor enthusiasts to spend an afternoon or a weekend. You can choose to stay in Miami and make day trips from nearby Key Largo. Key Largo is an hour south of the park, but feels like a tropical island. If you’re lucky enough to see these synchronous fireflies, you should visit the park in the fall, when the synchronized fireflies are visible.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park covers a vast area in Tennessee and North Carolina.
